Student Financial Aid

One of the first steps to choosing the right college should be applying for student financial aid. Many people believe that school is much more expensive than it actually is. Although some schools are expensive, there is most likely a school near you that will accept federal student financial aid and meet your financial standards. You should know that not every distance learning course or online degree is accredited and/or eligible for federal student aid. To find out whether you can receive federal student aid for your program, check with your school's financial aid department. For more information about distance learning, click here.

Question: My parents have no money to pay for my two summer courses at my university what do I do?

I've been unhappy at my school the entire 1st year so I decided to retake the two classes to raise my gpa so I could transfer. I had a parent plus loan on my student account to accept though I didn't think I would need it what do I do now? can I email the university back so I will be able to accept it and have it processed through again? Its ridiculous that I'm even writing this, because my father told me last minute that he wasn't able to pay since he spent the rest of my school savings 12k I know its not a lot but he spent it in two months on useless items. Anyways I just emailed my financial aid office at the school and will call them tomorrow. But is there actually anything they can do? I need to take these classes to transfer for fall 2019, because I have one econ class left I have to take also to be able to transfer to the schools I want to apply to. My parents also won't let me get a job this summer so I'm screwed. I hate my university a lot, and I never wanted to hate it so many of my friends that I've made had either dropped out or transferred out, I ended up having none by the end of 2nd quarter, and overall I feel like my school has no community, or warmth to it. Everyone here thinks the school is great academic wise but also boring all the time. Its difficult to stay motivated at that school, and I used to be a honors and AP student in high school so I was never the person to slack off except for in math since thats the only subject I'm terrible at.

Question: Student Loans and Debt?

I’m a Pre-Med major going to Penn State in the fall. I’m an out of state student therefore tuition is considerably higher. I applied to no other schools except for Penn State and Loyola but I chose the former due to them having my major and also being the furthest from home. Tuition is $55,000 and I told my mother that I could take a year off but she insists on me going. I have no outside scholarships and i only get a $5,000 from FAFSA despite my family being considerably poor. Penn State gave me an extra $5,000 so now tuition is down to $45,000 which is still a lot to pay. I want to make my mother proud as she sacrificed her old life to bring me to this country but I can’t do that if I’m in debt straight out of college. What do i do financially because we’ve already committed to the school and orientation is coming up soon. I’d rather not back out now as I am excited about the prospect of college and realizing my goals. Any help is appreciated
