A college in South Carolina has created a course devoted to pop star Lady Gaga.

The New York Times recently reported that the school will offer Lady Gaga and the Sociology of Fame beginning next spring, a class that will explore what makes an individual famous and what being famous means in today's culture. The professor, who runs a fan website dedicated to the singer, has attended more than 28 of her live shows and owns more than 300 of her records on vinyl and CD.

The professor said that he would attempt to contact Lady Gaga to request that she visit the class, according to the news provider. He added that it may be difficult, however, to arrange her appearance because she is on tour during the spring.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that sociologists study the behavior of individuals, groups, institutions and nations. Some professionals in this field provide insight into the variety of ways that individuals and groups make decisions, follow trends and respond to change.

The bureau projects that the number of job opportunities for sociologists and political scientists will grow by 21 percent in the next eight year, which is much faster than most occupations. The skills of a sociologist can be applied in many different industries, the BLS reports, and the demand for professionals in this field will increase as more social, political and business organizations conduct evaluations and statistical work.

Many online colleges offer sociology degrees which include flexible class schedules that cater to working adults.
