Although the healthcare field is expected to offer employees a great deal of security in the coming years, trends such as innovative technology could cause this sector to change drastically. As a result, professionals in this industry may want to consider enrolling in campus-based or online schools to ensure that their skills are up-to-date.

In fact, many of these educational institutions are beginning to tailor their offerings to changes in the healthcare sector. For example, two California-based schools have launched a partnership to create a new masters program in the emerging field of translational medicine, The New York Times reports.

The program, which is backed by former Intel CEO Andrew Grove, will teach students to apply engineering and business skills to the medical field in order to create a new approach to healthcare.

Similar courses of study may require degree candidates to take a variety of classes, such as anatomy, physiology, cell biology, project management, engineering, clinical trial design, cost-accounting, organizational behavior as well as regulatory and patent laws.

Individuals who enroll in these types of programs may gain the leverage they will need to gain promotions as the healthcare field continues to grow, as government analysts say that more than 3 million new positions will be created in this sector in the coming years.
