As the demand for software engineers continues to grow, many campus-based and online colleges are increasing their offerings in this field.

For example, a Pennsylvania-based university recently announced the launch of an online masters program, which is intended to prepare graduates for software engineering careers in a wide variety of industries.

Experts say that widespread adoption of technology has prompted companies in many sectors to hire software engineers to bring their organizations up to speed. As a result, these professionals may need to assume additional duties, such as project management, architectural tasks or design.

Furthermore, a great deal of organizations are increasing their global operations, a trend that could create job opportunities for individuals who wish to work overseas. Consequently, professionals who have recently completed campus-based or online college degree programs will be more likely to take advantage of these changes to the software engineering field.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for software engineers is expected to increase by 32 percent over the next eight years, and approximately 250,000 new jobs will be created during this time.
