Individuals who earn a degree in information technology (IT) can expect to see a great deal of job opportunities in the coming years. In fact, these students may be qualified to work in a wide variety of industries, ranging from computer systems to healthcare.

As a result, many campus-based and online schools are increasing their offerings in IT in an effort to help job seekers transition into related positions.

For example, an Illinois-based school recently created a web-based version of its master's program in information systems. This course of study will enable degree seekers to choose from six professional specializations, including medical informatics, software project management and development, information systems security, database and internet technologies, information systems as well as information systems management.

Government analysts say that individuals who earn similar certifications will see improved job prospects as more industries begin to capitalize on the conveniences that are offered by new technologies.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nearly 50,000 positions for computer and information systems managers will be created over the next eight years.
