In today's difficult job market, campus-based or online college degrees are essential qualifications for several positions. However, degree candidates who have some real-world experience in their area of expertise could gain a competitive edge over other applicants.
Furthermore, students who are able to work in emerging industries before graduation could increase their chances of launching high-paying careers. For example, business degree candidates may want to consider exploring their options in the green industry, as many companies are looking to make their business practices more sustainable.
In fact, there are several opportunities for MBA students who wish to enter the green sector, such as the Environmental Defense Fund's (EDF) Climate Corps program.
For the third consecutive year, EDF representatives will train MBA candidates to assess companies' workplaces and develop methods to make them more energy efficient. After they have completed their training, the students will help participating businesses find innovative ways to cut carbon emissions and enhance their bottom lines.
This year's participating organizations include Cisco, eBay, Genzyme, Savvis, SunGard, Yahoo!, Bloomberg, Carnival Cruise Lines, JCPenney, McDonald's, Staples, Target and Verizon.
